Learn to Fly!

Learning to fly is one of life's most rewarding adventures. Whether you are considering learning to fly for recreation, or pursuing a career in aviation, you are about to embark on one of the most exciting and enjoyable experiences of your life; and one that is an investment that you can enjoy for years to come.

The Waterloo-Wellington Flight Centre is one of the top Flight Training Centres in Canada and can assist you in making your dream of flying a reality. Please read "How to Select a Flight School", for information on what to look for when choosing a flight School.

If you’ve never been in a small airplane before and would like to experience the thrill of piloting an aircraft, WWFC offers a special Introductory Flight.  For $79.95+HST, you can spend 40 minutes at the controls of one of our Cessna 152 aircraft, with one of our qualified flight instructors. The Introductory Flight is a wonderful way of testing the skies, and will confirm that flying is definitely for you.

In the world of flight training there are several routes one can take.  Flight training encompasses both ground school and hands on flight training with an instructor.  Student pilots are required to meet certain medical standards (Aviation Medical Examiners) in order to begin their solo training, as well as successfully pass the PSTAR exam.  You are also required to hold a Radio Operator's licence.  Once you have passed your medical, and have successfully written the PSTAR, you can obtain a Student Pilot Permit and move forward with your flight training.

“Every journey begins with one small step” and learning to fly is no exception.  When you begin your flight training, you have two choices:

The Recreational Pilot Permit is the simplest and fastest way to start flying.  You can start your training at the age of 14, and complete your training at a younger age than the Private Pilot Licence.  Although this is a faster route to flying on your own, it is important to know that there are restrictions on where, when and what you can fly.

The Private Pilot Licence gives you more flexibility and freedom to fly at different times and in different aircraft. It also is the licence you require to move further with more advanced flight training or specialty ratings – float, night, and/or instrument.  Once you have your Private Licence, why not take your friends on a tour over the city!
