Fast Track

 

The Fast Track training program is ideally suited for students who already hold a post secondary diploma or degree or mature students contemplating a career change. The program takes just 16 months and includes the Commercial License and Multi Engine Instrument Rating.

Requirements:

Knowledge:

Private Pilot Licence – Aeroplane: The applicant must have attended a minimum of 40 hours of Private Pilot – Aeroplane ground school instruction includes mandatory subject areas and obtained a minimum of 60% on the written examination for Private Pilot Licence – Aeroplane (PPAER).

Commercial Pilot Licence – Aeroplane: The applicant must have attended a minimum of 80 hours of Commercial Pilot – Aeroplane ground school instruction includes mandatory subject areas and obtained a minimum of 60% on the written examination for Commercial Pilot Licence – Aeroplane (CPAER).

Multi-Engine Rating: There is no Transport Canada written exam. Knowledge of multi-engine theory and practical application of performance charts will be tested during the flight test. Your instructor will provide reading assignments to prepare you.

Instrument Rating: Group 1 Instrument | Group 3 Instrument
The applicant must have obtained a minimum of 70% on the written examination for Instrument Rating (INRAT). Ground school is not required, but is highly recommended. (The Study and Reference Guides are available at:

Experience:

Private Pilot Licence:

The applicant shall have completed a minimum of 45 hours total flight time in aeroplanes, including a minimum of 12 hours pilot-in-command time, with 5 hours cross-country pilot-in-command time; and:

  • 17 hours dual instruction time, which shall include:
    • 3 hours cross-country
    • 5 hours of instrument time of which 3 hours may be instrument ground time.
  • 12 hours solo flight time, which shall include:
    • 5 hours cross country flight time with one solo cross-country flight of 150 nautical miles includes a minimum of 2 full-stop landings at points other than that of departure.

Commercial Pilot Licence:

The applicant shall have completed a minimum of 200 hours total flight time in aeroplanes, including a minimum of 100 hours pilot-in-command time, with 20 hours cross-country pilot-in-command time; and:

  • 35 hours post-private dual instruction time, which shall include:
    • 5 hours night, including a minimum of 2 hours of night cross-country
    • 5 hours cross-country, which may include the cross country experience from (a) above
    • 20 hours of instrument light time in addition to the experience stated in (a) and (b). A maximum of 10 hours of the 20 hours may be conducted on an approved aeroplane simulator or flight-training device.
  • 30 hours post-private solo flight time, which shall include:
    • One solo cross-country flight to a point a minimum of 300 nautical miles in radius from the point of departure and shall include a minimum of 3 landings at points other than that of departure.
    • 5 hours solo flight time by night during which a minimum of 10 takeoffs, circuits and landings were completed.

Multi-Engine Rating:

The applicant shall have completed sufficient dual instruction to meet the flight test standards.

Instrument Rating:

The applicant shall have completed a minimum of 50 hours of cross-country flight time as pilot-in-command in aeroplanes and 40 hours instrument time of which a maximum of 20 hours may be instrument ground time, including one dual cross-country flight under simulated or actual IMC conditions to a point a minimum of 100 nautical miles radius from the point of departure. The flight is to be conducted in accordance with an IFR flight plan and must include, at 2 different locations, an instrument approach to minima.

Privileges:

The holder of a Private Pilot Licence – Aeroplane may:

  • Operate single engine, non-high-performance aeroplanes under VMC, not for hire or reward.

The holder of a Commercial Pilot Licence – Aeroplane may:

  • Operate single engine, non-high-performance aeroplanes under VMC for hire or reward while employed by the holder of an air operator certificate.
  • Exercise the privileges of a PPL, night rating, and VFR OTT rating.

The holder of a Multi-Engine Rating may:

  • Operate non-high-performance multi-engine aeroplanes as endorsed on their licence.

The holder of a Group 1 Instrument Rating may:

  • Operate single- or multi-engine aeroplanes in IMC in accordance with Instrument Flight Rules.
