An applicant for an Instructor Rating – Class 4 shall complete 25 hours of ground school including mandatory subject areas. An applicant shall have obtained a minimum of 70% on the written examination (AIRAF). The study and reference guide (TP2810) is available at:

An applicant shall have completed a minimum of:
30 hours dual instruction, including 5 hours in the teaching of instrument flying skills.
An applicant shall successfully complete a flight test to the standard outlined in the Flight Test Standard – Instructor Rating (TP 5537E) available at:

The holder of an Instructor Rating – Class 4 may:
Instruct students while employed and supervised at a Flight Training Unit.
